WE BREATHE, WE LIVE: BROTHERLY LOVE...

WE BREATHE, WE LIVE: BROTHERLY LOVE PROTEST STORIESFor 20 years we have provided you an embracing environment to tell your true, personal stories on the page, the stage, online, and on the air. Now First Person Arts brings them to you on film. In collaboration with the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services and their Engaging Males of Color Initiative, we bring you,"We Breathe, We Live: Brotherly Love Protest Stories". Directed by Glenn Holsten This documentary film uses the power of storytelling to present the first-person experiences of men who participated in the George Floyd and Walter Wallace, Jr. protests in Philadelphia during the summer of 2020. The film honors the raw emotion caused by collective trauma, weaving together the intersecting stories of five different men of color from a variety of backgrounds in the city. After the trying months of the Summer of 2020, they ask . . . what now? There will be 30-minute talkback after the screening. This screening begins the tour of screening throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area. If you would like to schedule a screening of this film for your organization, email us at marketing@firstpersonarts.org. The Chauvin verdict brought justice, but justice and healing are two different things.

News anchor, Bill Anderson, reflects on the recent loss of his father, radio icon, Cody Anderson, while activist and mother Kimberly Kamara shares the loss of her black son in a senseless tragedy. Eric "Shomari" Grimes, Dr. H. Bernard Hall, Rafael Collazo, and Raymond Zhang are leaders who join in to honor what is too often overlooked - the power of fathers and sons of color relationships. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Eric Wortham. These stories are particularly poignant as there is a racial reckoning occurring within the United States following the murder of George Floyd and other men of color. These stories of fathers and sons resonate as they point to the enduring love and resilience found in these familial ties. This event is FREE to the public.
