Less than 11 months after setting the world record for a solo trek across Antarctica, Todd Carmichael will attempt the first man-haul traverse of Death Valley National Park. After he walks 250 miles through the hottest, driest place in North America — alone and without assistance, re-supplies, supplemental water or the aid of machine or animal — he comes to the First Person Festival to talk about his daring quests. And after the Festival? A trek across the Namib desert. Don’t miss this exciting conversation with one of the most intrepid adventurers in the world today.

Todd Carmichael, a 45-year-old entrepreneur (founder of La Colombe Coffee) and high-risk adventurer is also a passionate crusader for social and ecological causes. He has a decade-long history of undertaking self-supported treks into challenging environments. To be true to his unwavering ethic of low-carbon, self-sufficient travel, Carmichael takes only what he can carry on his back, or, in the case of Antarctica, pull on a sled.
